Some thoughts on Hallow’s End and beyond.. part 1.

The achievement popped like a “jack- in- the- box” as I hovered over my last “victim” and the final barrier to my first title. The Death Knight (an Orc) had no idea what was coming as I lowered myself in to position. Little by little, I descended,  until the “red dot” on the top corner of the icon in my action bar turned gray .  With one mouse click, the pumpkin flew from my bag,  like an unholy crown from above.. His “head was checked” and I was now “Hallowed.”

I scrambled to get the screenshot, hoping  to catch the achievement before being apprehended (and promptly dispatched), by the flying sentinels in Orgrimmar. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to install “Multi-shot” and the  screen I took wasn’t worth sharing. Sadly, the moment was lost..

I subbed this shot in its place because, well, I liked it.

This “holiday-event” brought about a number of notable  “firsts” for me. I understand that this is one of the easier titles to get in WOW and while I do feel a (minor) sense of accomplishment, the real joy came from having to complete the other required sub-achievements.

My first run of the HH  netted me a veritable cornucopia (or pumpkin load) of “Hallows End” goodness.  I had seen,  the “Sinister Squashling” petback in March and wondered what I had to do to get that.. Check..The flying broom mount, (Archmage Lan’dalock accompanies you on one of these during a Firelands quest)..Check. The Hallowed Helm.. Check.. And if that wasn’t enough, some candy to get me started toward “Out With It.”

I thought to myself  “well” if I’m lucky, I might have a shot at getting the “magey” ring and that would pretty much do it for me.

“But wait”  the game show announcer cried.. “there’s more!”  Not two or three days later, I had logged in late and figured I’d do my one HH run for a few JP and maybe some candy and a mask… I had a couple of guild mates with me and we dispatched HH fairly quickly. Most of the non-guild members in our “pug” had already left the group and I figured I’d crack open my pumpkin for a look-see.. Lo and behold .. I thought “surely, mine own eyes do deceive me!”

There, nestled between the Horseman’s Horrific Helmet (which was cool but useless for me, a Mage) and a short stack of G.N.E.R.D.S was the “Horseman’s Reins!” I could hardly contain myself.. I felt like Ralphie who opens his final present (a Red Ryder bb gun) in “A Christmas Story. “

I had finally gotten my first non-purchased, “rare drop” mount.  WOOT!

What were your favorite Hallows End items?

Well, some how you found me!  Thanks for dropping by! I hope you’ll stay a bit and have read. If you can’t stay, the door (or link to be more accurate) is always open!

I’m currently collecting some thoughts for my first “official” post and no, it won’t have anything to do with Pandas.. I like Pandas mind you.. but I think this topic has been fairly well covered over the past week and a half..

In the meantime, however, I encourage you to get out there and enjoy the Hallows End happenings. I have to say, it’s just about the most fun I’ve had online in a long time! I’m hoping to get my very first title: The Hallowed within the next few days..

What will you be doing?
